Seeking & Encountering God

The Forerunners Youth Ministry team is an established community of young adults empowered to provide vibrant and engaging youth ministry in Catholic schools through ongoing ministry training and spiritual formation.

Forerunners was established as a youth ministry team at Worth School in 2015. Along with our partner schools, St. Paul’s Catholic College and Cardinal Newman Catholic School, we are bringing fresh models of youth ministry to our pupils and staff by providing opportunities to encounter God and seek him further.

We are seeking to recruit new youth ministers for a yearlong mission placement with the preferred option for a second-year placement. We believe that our mission flows most effectively from our communal life where we pray, experience life together and are formed for mission.

more about
The Forerunners Program

Our team live together in Compass House, which is situated in the grounds of Worth Abbey, Sussex. We aspire to live the fullness of the Christian life inspired by St. John the Baptist and the Benedictine charism. We do this through our shared life of prayer, fellowship, formation, and mission.

You will be provided with extensive ongoing ministry training. During your time with us, you will receive the opportunity for formation, spiritual guidance, ongoing performance management and coaching. This will be complemented by multiple opportunities through various training and retreat opportunities that the Forerunners attend (such as theASCENT’s annual training and the HTB Leadership Conference). We will also take into consideration your particular gifts and calling so that you might grow in these.

We desire for our mission to come from deep intimacy with the Lord and prayer. To ensure this, our formation focuses particularly the Benedictine tradition and the charismatic movement.

If your application is successful, we will discern which school you might be best placed in to grow as a youth minister.

While you will live at Worth and provide some evening ministry to the boarding houses, it will depend on your skill set and character as to which school you will spend your daytime hours in.

You will also be invited to be a part of theASCENT UK, a discipleship process for 15–18-year-olds, which is a key part of our evangelisation strategy in the diocese.
